green addition

The guest house has been painted now. We chose a very pretty green, can't remember the name right now and I am pretty sure it had one those yummy type of name, like fresh sparagus, sautee bell pepper, or cute fat caterpillar, something like it.

Electrical, plumbing and HVAC

Got the electrical upgraded, the plumbing is on the way and the HVAC system is in place, except for the actual unit which goes in, in a week or so.
In April it will be a year since we broke ground :-) I guess it is not too bad for Joely doing most of the work himself while holding a full time job and taking care of his pregnant coneja.

It is starting to look like a house, like a BIG house

WHEW! Building a house takes a long time!, but our addition is starting to look like more and more like a real house. Black paper went up, then the windows and the patio door (which looks great) and now we are working on the siding. It has been a great learning experience for Joel and I. It really is not all that complicated, of course you have to have knowledge about how and when to do things but most of it follows common sense. The inspector of the house is a great guy (I will have to get a picture of him), he told us to call him if we ever have any questions on how things need to be done. He always calls us back, even when he is out of state on vacation ooops!. He saves us from a lot of worries and making things more difficult than what they need to be. YEAY for great inspectors. His name is Dan.

Always use sunscreen EVERYWHERE

We finally finished roofing the addition, it looks great. I love the 'desert paint' color of the shingles. One piece of advice, when roofing always wear sunscreen everywhere, especially if you let your pants ride down plummer style. Otherwise this will happen:

Framing is almost complete

We've been lucky to find two brothers and their dad who know what they are doing. They have been a big help. Also, Marianela got to help for a bit during her visit

On with the concrete slab

Finally after a lot of preparation, many evenings getting it all ready, we were able to pour the concrete slab for the addition. It looks beautiful. We decided on a terra cotta color for the concrete. Here are some pics/video of the prep, during the pour and the final product.

The New Addition

Construction has started: A week ago we broke ground in our backyard when Joel rented an excavator and WENT TO TOWN (did I mention that he dug up the gas line the first time he used the excavator? ) hehe. Thankfully there were no leaks. I will be posting new construction pics as we move along

Here I am driving the monster:
